...No matter what the people say; Tiffany doesn't let the law being laid down on her.

"Happiness for me is:
decide for myself what I want to do."

Although Tiffany Darwish is just 17 years old, she is worldfamous already. Ok, her latest single "Radio Romance" didn't become a big hit, yet she does have two #1 hits world-wide. Popfoto talked to Tiffany about happiness, being independent, success and if success has changed her...

If you see her in her hotelroom, she could just as well be your class-mate: comfortable sweater and jeans put away in knee-high boots. And yet, Tiffany has two #1 hits world-wide. Above all, she has done something striking. She sued her mother. She wants the judge to declare her an adult, so she doesn't need her mother's autograph for certain financial businesses. Part of the reason why she wants that, is mentioned when we talk about "being happy".

"In order to be happy, I need to understand what I do with my life", she says. "And WHY I do it. Ok, my manager mostly decides what I do in business, but I want to have a voice in the matter. Only then I can be happy."
And there are lots of matters... While her class-mates are still in school in Norwalk, California, Tiffany travels all over the world. From schoolgirl to superstar is a giant step; how did that happen?
"I was very lucky. I've been singing for years. I used to sing in bands when I was 9."

"I stay myself. Maybe that's the reason for my success"

"When I was 12 George Tobin, now my manager, heard me. He was enthusiast and started managing me 2 years later."
The rest is history. Tiffany became a star with "I Think We're Alone now" and "Could've Been".
Can you still be yourself after that?
"I don't think I've changed. I still like the same people and things. I'm me. Maybe that's the reason for my success; that I stay myself. And not -as the press says- my manager's puppet. I have enough honest people around who would tell me if I changed. I did become more adult because of my success. I'm stronger, that's obvious. You're going through a lot of things, so you learn more".
You sing about love a lot. Do you have a boyfriend yourself? "No, I do go out with my friends at home, but that's all very free. I'm away too often for a relationship. In the future I want to get married and have kids, but also a career. It will be difficult, but it is possible. If I only find the right person..."
Is your career really the most important thing in your life?
"There is something I find even more important. I also work with uncurable children. They live in hospitals until they die."

"Helping these sick children is more important than my career."

"I visit them to talk with them and to invite them to my shows. That really makes their day. It makes me realise how happy I am and that I'm healthy; that I can do everything I want. And forget about the career then."
